Blues determined to win
Losing is not an option for the University Blues when they take on the Waitakere Magpies in the Auckland Australian Football League (AAFL) grand final on Sunday.
The defending premiers know they face a mammoth task against the Magpies who have already claimed the AAFL minor premiership this year.
‘‘Winning is a goal that we have set out to achieve at the start of the season, winning is why we play,’’ Blues coach Chris Mundell says.
‘‘But we understand that it won’t just come to us. Waitakere are just as keen to win it as we are.’’
Magpies head into the final at QBE Stadium this Sunday as favourites after an unbeaten run this season, but University take comfort from a draw in an earlier outing, when they met in round nine.
‘‘Our last outing against them was a draw which we should have won so we can go into the final confident that we can beat them.
‘‘But certainly we won’t be complacent. They are a very strong team.
‘‘Any team that goes through the season unbeaten deserves full respect and we will need to be on top of our game if we are to take it from them.’’
University has held onto the silverware for the last two years and are desperate to keep it that way.
The grand final kicks off at 2pm.
