Locals secure top spots in 25kmrace
Runners from Auckland have come out on top in a fun run on Waiheke Island, which attracts entrants from far and wide.
The Waiheke Fuller’s Wharf2Wharf race on Saturday, January 21 included runners from Sweden, Denmark, Argentina, England, Germany and the USA as well as locals and people from around the country.
But it was the Aucklanders who again took first, second and third places in the gruelling 25km run.
Glendowie’s Tom Moyes won the race, reaching the finish line in one hour and 33 minutes.
He said the cooler weather conditions had been perfect but the 25km run was still tough.
‘‘The route is really hilly. I was waiting for the flat sections but they never came.’’
