Central Leader - - YOUR PAPER, YOUR PLACE -

The SPCA Auckland is trying to combat the thousands of unwanted kittens that end up on its doorstep each year by launching its first targeted desexing programme. From March 13 to March24, it is offering free desexing for cats in 12 Auckland suburbs - Avondale, Glen Innes, Henderson, Mangere, Manurewa, Massey, Mt Roskill, Mt Wellington, Otahuhu, Otara, Papakura and Papatoetoe. Its goal is to desex at least 500 cats and kittens - a small portion of the 25,000 unwanted felines that it has gathered over the past three years. Desexed cats are less likely to spray and mark their territory in your house, less likely to yowl loudly throughout the night and less likely to get into fights. They have reduced risk of health problems such as cancer, are more affectionate and friendly and live longer, healthier lives.
