Rainbow garden shed up for grabs
One lucky punter will have the chance to take a bit of gay pride to their garden thanks to Fletcher Building.
The construction company has donated the shed from its float in the 2017 Auckland Pride Parade to be auctioned off in support of Rainbow Youth.
The shed measures 2.2 metres by 4 metres, is worth $10,000, and will come with $3000 worth of tools.
Kate Daly from Fletcher Building said the company was delighted to throw its support behind Rainbow Youth.
‘‘We really want people to feel safe to bring their whole selves to work at Fletcher Building,’’ she said.
‘‘We love that Rainbow Youth works with young people in the LGBTIQ community to help them to know who they are and be who they are.’’
The shed will be auctioned off as part of the It’s a Bit Posh charity gala on May 4.
Rainbow Youth executive director Duncan Matthews said it had been fantastic working with Fletcher Building to break down some of those assumptions about who can work in what industry.
Rainbow Youth was launched in 1989, and offers education and support for young people around sexuality and gender identity.
Fletcher Building has a Rainbow Tick, which promotes equity in the workplace.
The shed featured as part of Fletcher Building’s float in the Pride Parade in Auckland in February 2017.
