FUTURE FEMALE LEADERS
YWCA Auckland Future Leaders Programme celebrates its 15 year anniversary this year. The programme helps girls between the ages of 14 to 18 years, from low decile schools, develop leadership skills and confidence. It was founded in 2002 by former YWCA CEO Di Paton and has helped 800 young women grow into confident, capable and educated female leaders of tomorrow. Paton said she set up the programme because she was concerned there were many young women in vulnerable areas that lacked resources and goals in life. Since it began, 85 per cent of programmes graduates have gone on to further their education, many of whom were the first in their family to do so.
