Thieves tar­get bikes

A fa­ther steals a bi­cy­cle, then en­cour­ages one of his two sons to ride away on it, in a new video re­leased by Auck­land City Dis­trict Po­lice.

Dubbed ‘Gone in Six Sec­onds’, the CCTV footage shows the trio run­ning up to the bike parked out­side a swim­ming pool in New­mar­ket.

The fa­ther snips the lock and the young boys ride off on the bike.

Later that day po­lice caught the trio at­tempt­ing to steal an­other bike out­side AUT Univer­sity in cen­tral Auck­land.

The fa­ther was charged with theft and re­manded in cus­tody while his chil­dren have been re­ferred to youth agen­cies.

An­other clip shows two al­leged teenage thieves flee­ing on stolen bi­cy­cles be­ing caught and ar­rested by po­lice.

More footage re­leased by po­lice shows as yet uniden­ti­fied of­fend­ers steal­ing or try­ing to steal bi­cy­cles.
