AUCKLAND TOURISM UP
A record number of more than 1.15 million arrivals were recorded this summer in Auckland from December to March, spending a record of $3.13 billion. United States recorded the highest number of travellers into Auckland, a total of 1,147,424 visitors during the summer period. This was a 7.1 per cent overall growth compared to the previous summer. Auckland Tourism’s Steve Armitage said a consistent approach of marketing Auckland as a destination in its own right, showcasing the diverse range of world-class visitor experiences and how accessible they all are from the thriving city centre, was paying off. Visitors from Australia were up 2.1 per cent compared to last summer, however there was a slight drop in Chinese visitors.
