A record num­ber of more than 1.15 mil­lion ar­rivals were recorded this sum­mer in Auck­land from De­cem­ber to March, spend­ing a record of $3.13 bil­lion. United States recorded the high­est num­ber of trav­ellers into Auck­land, a to­tal of 1,147,424 visi­tors dur­ing the sum­mer pe­riod. This was a 7.1 per cent over­all growth com­pared to the pre­vi­ous sum­mer. Auck­land Tourism’s Steve Ar­mitage said a con­sis­tent ap­proach of mar­ket­ing Auck­land as a des­ti­na­tion in its own right, show­cas­ing the di­verse range of world-class vis­i­tor ex­pe­ri­ences and how ac­ces­si­ble they all are from the thriv­ing city cen­tre, was pay­ing off. Visi­tors from Aus­tralia were up 2.1 per cent com­pared to last sum­mer, how­ever there was a slight drop in Chi­nese visi­tors.
