Fans watching Mt Smart Stadium night-time sporting events will see the field brighter than ever before from Friday with the final installation of the Philips ArenaVision LED floodlighting system. Auckland Stadiums director Paul Nisbet said the LED floodlights would be amajor improvement for players, spectators and TV broadcasters. ‘‘The players will be able to see more clearly, the fans will be able to view a better product and the television broadcast will have a sharper picture,’’ Nisbet said.

‘‘One of the best advantages is the long life of the system compared to the relatively short life of the older metal halide lamps - given the difficulty of access to the lighting, this will greatly reduce maintenance costs going forward,’’ he said. The LED floodlights installation follows the addition of a new 212 square-metre screen, the largest permanent stadium screen in New Zealand.
