Snapchat dog a Kiwi first
Reggie, an Auckland-based Labrador-German Shepherd cross, is the first dog to run his own Snapchat account.
He wears Snapchat Spectacles, which he flicks with his paw to activate, and captures 10 second snippets of his surroundings on a wide-angle lens.
Animal behaviourist Mark Vette rescued Reggie while filming Dogs May Fly, a six-part series in which canines were put in the pilot’s seat, in the United Kingdom.
Proving himself smart from the get go, Reggie mastered 100 behaviours while learning to fly an aircraft, and was the perfect pup to run his own Snapchat account, which launched last week.
‘‘There are thousands of pets who ‘have’ their own Facebook and Instagram pages, but none of them actually run those pages for themselves - Reggie on the other hand, is different,’’ Vette said.
Reggie’s recorded content is uploaded in real time and posted live, giving his followers a dog’s eye view of the world.
Vette recalls it only took him a couple of weeks to teach Reggie how to use his glasses, practising ‘‘highfive behaviours’’ on a mock-up pair, so fans could train their own dogs to be social media savvy too.
