Woman beaten unconscious, car stolen
A woman was beaten until she was unconscious by two men trying to break into her neighbour’s car in central Auckland.
Police said the 55-year-old woman was walking to her own car around 7pm on Monday when she saw two men trying to break into the car on Sutherland Rd, in Pt Chevalier.
The men attacked her, kicking and punching her until she was unconscious, before turning on the woman’s daughter who had tried to come to her aid.
The men made off with the woman’s car, a 1998 blue Volkswagen Polo hatchback, registration CYJ547. Police are appealing to the public for sightings of the car between 7pm on Monday and 9.30am on Tuesday, when it was found in Mt Albert.
Auckland City Police Detective Senior Sergeant Glenn Baldwin said it was a ‘‘completely unprovoked attack on innocent members of the public’’.
‘‘Both victims have been traumatised by the events and police need your help to catch these violent criminals before they hurt anyone else,’’ Baldwin said.
Police believe both men were in their early to mid 20’s, Polynesian or Maori and of stocky build.
One was described as having very short black hair, possibly shaved, wearing a long-sleeved white T-shirt and dark pants with black Nike shoes.
The second man was wearing a blue windbreaker-style jacket with a hood and black pants.
