The Elec­toral Com­mis­sion says 60,000 peo­ple could miss out on vot­ing in the Septem­ber gen­eral elec­tion af­ter their en­rol­ment up­date packs were ‘‘re­turned to sender’’ be­cause the re­cip­i­ent was no longer at the ad­dress. Up­date packs were sent to 3.15 mil­lion en­rolled vot­ers at the end of June to check de­tails. Vot­ers whose packs were re­turned to sender were taken off the elec­toral roll. Peo­ple can en­rol, check and up­date their de­tails at www.elections.org.nz, pick up an en­rol­ment for­mat a post shop or re­quest a formby call­ing 0800 36 76 56 or tex­ting their name and ad­dress to 3676. Vot­ing starts on Mon­day Septem­ber 11. Chief elec­toral of­fi­cer Ali­cia Wright said peo­ple could en­rol right up un­til mid­night on Fri­day Septem­ber 22 but not on elec­tion day it­self, which is Satur­day Septem­ber 23.
