Family-focused football launches in Royal Oak
Royal Oak’s SUB Football is introducing a new family league this summer, giving parents the opportunity to play with their kids.
The competition will run on Thursday nights from 6pm over 14 weeks, with a four week break over the Christmas holiday period.
Teams will be allowed to field a maximum of two adult males. The remainder of the seven-a-side team can be comprised of players aged 10 to 16 and women of any age.
SUB Football director Becs Stitt is a Royal Oak resident and has been managing the league for the last four seasons. The competition had traditionally been for adults only and was most popular among work colleagues and friends, she said.
However, in recent years there had been a lot more interest from younger players and parents wanting to play with their kids, prompting the idea to offer something new, she said.
The league’s pre-season tournament kicks off on October 14 at Seymour Park, Royal Oak before the family league begins on October 30. The tournament costs $695 per team. Registrations could be made through the competition website - www.subfootball.com.
