Slopehill Cricket side makes good debut
– The newly formed Slopehill Cricket side made a dream start to its debut season when it outclassed the usually strong Blackstone Hill side in the opening round of the Scurr Cup twenty/20 cricket competition at Millbrook on Saturday. Batting first, the home side scored an impressive 193 for six off its 20 overs, with Brad Patterson top-scoring with 73. It then restricted Blackstone Hill to 133 for seven to claim a convincing 60-run victory. The Queenstown women’s team won division one of the national interclub bowls sevens at Alexandra last week. The side, featuring Margaret O’Connor in the singles, Shona Anderson and Christine Buchanan in the pairs, and Margaret Tall, Kath Tomlinson, Kay Patterson and Debra Lloyd in the fours, edged out Alexandra by just one point (19-18) to take the honours.
BETTER LUCK NEXT TIME
Wanaka multisporters Dougal Allan and Gavin Mason, along with team-mate Louise Marks, acquitted themselves well but it wasn’t quite enough when they were beaten convincingly by the Australian representative side in the Trans-Tasman Challenge in August, Western Australia, during the weekend. The challenge was part of the Anaconda Adventure Race.
