Winnie Bagoes a dining pleasure
What’s on offer:
Winnies, as it is affectionately known, is an iconic Queenstown restaurant and bar with a loyal local following and it’s not hard to see why after dining there. The staff are friendly and helpful and the food is delicious. While the focus of the menu is definitely on the large selection of gourmet pizzas on offer, there is also a comprehensive a la carte menu, which includes everything from salads to steak. The dessert menu also offers a selection of treats including an apple, cranberry and cinnamon dessert pizza. Vegetarian and gluten-free diners are also well catered for with options for gluten-free pizzas, too. The restaurant also caters for children and offers a varied and affordable children’s menu. The restaurant also offers a takeaway delivery service.
After sharing some gluten-free skinny breads and dips, which I must say were very good, my dining companions and I shared a selection of standard and glutenfree pizzas. With a large variety of flavours to choose from, it was difficult to choose just one so we opted to order half/half pizzas. The Thai Chicken, Montonara (the best seller), Hawaiian and Luigi’s Italian were all delicious and enjoyed by everyone, including my five-year-old dining companion. Following two courses there was no way we could fit in dessert but the Banoffee Pie, Cheesecake and Sticky Date pudding all looked very appealing.
While Winnie Bagoes has a relaxed dining atmosphere, the staff are attentive and helpful. Our waitress was particularly helpful and was happy to check with the chef on special dietary requirements. She was also friendly and ensured we had everything we needed throughout the duration of our meal.
Good pizza, friendly and helpful staff, an opening roof, reasonable prices, great atmosphere and good music – what more could you ask for? If you haven’t dined at Winnies yet, I suggest you mark a date on your calendar to do so.
Super spot: Winnies has a loyal following and it’s easy to see why.
