Alexandra bowlers in top spot
- The Alexandra Super Liquor bowls side has taken an outright lead in the ECNZ trophy thanks to it picking up the maximum three wins in the latest round on the weekend. After seven rounds, it now leads on 31 points, followed closely by RSA 4 (27), with three other sides a further two points back on 25. Omakau lifted itself off the bottom of the standings after it also picked up three wins.
BETTER LUCK NEXT TIME
The highly anticipated battle between Queenstown and Slopehill never eventuated at the weekend as poor weather meant the Scurr Cup Twenty/20 cricket clash was called off. Constant rain on Friday night and most of Saturday meant the Events Centre grounds were too wet, and the possibility of the game being played on Sunday was also snuffed out thanks to the inclement weather. It is unsure at this stage when, or if, the game will be played.
