2011 is the McArthur & Sy­mons Au­tospec­tac­u­lar, this year it is held at the Dunedin Edgar Cen­tre on Oc­to­ber 1.

There are spe­cial dis­plays mark­ing 100 years of Chevro­let and 50 years of E Type Jaguar. The event is or­gan­ised by Otago Clas­sic Mo­tor­ing Club, Otago Fal­con & Fair­lane Club and North Otago VCC. Each year a per­cent­age of the profit goes to char­ity, this year it’s the So­phie El­liott Foun­da­tion.

This event at­tracts up to 60 dis­plays, more than 25 trade sites and over 30 swap sites. There will also be a dis­play of cars, trucks, mo­tor­cy­cles, rac­ing cars, stock cars, street cars, model cars and vin­tage ma­chin­ery. The Dunedin Road Safety Part­ners will again con­duct their hugely pop­u­lar crash re­sponse demon­stra­tions.

The Fire Ser­vice will also pro­mote safety with fire ex­tin­guisher work­shops and ve­hi­cles, in­clud­ing prac­ti­cal demon­stra­tions on Wormald’s blaz­ing trailer. The Auto Olympics will be run­ning through­out the day, this is a free fam­ily ori­ented ac­tiv­ity.
