Cadet Forces squadron awards

The march­ing and salutes were as crisp as the uni­forms as mem­bers of the Alexan­dra squadron of the New Zealand Cadet Forces and their fam­i­lies and friends gath­ered for the unit’s end-of-year prize­giv­ing and pa­rade on Thurs­day. From left, An­gus An­der­son, of Alexan­dra, Ai­den Smith, of Clyde, Hunter Jack­son, of Cromwell, Tony Hol­lows, of Alexan­dra, Alex Man­son, of Queen­stown, Eil­ish Hoskins, of Clyde, and Me­gan Tay­lor, of Cromwell, all re­ceived awards at the event, held in the Clyde Me­mo­rial Hall. The South Is­land co-or­di­na­tor for cadet forces, Alas­tair Rankin, trav­elled from his base at Burn­ham Mil­i­tary Camp to at­tend. He said it was im­por­tant to ‘‘pub­licly ac­knowl­edge some out­stand­ing achieve­ments from some out­stand­ing young peo­ple’’. In her speech, squadron leader Jill Check­etts, of Wanaka, thanked the cadets for their en­thu­si­asm, re­spect, in­tegrity and dis­ci­pline through­out the year. ‘‘You put a lot of work in and you get a lot back. It is amaz­ing what they can achieve.’’
