Imag­ine 100,000 peo­ple across New Zealand shar­ing lunch, cel­e­brat­ing chil­dren, kinder­garten and com­mu­nity. This is a na­tional New Zealand wide kinder­garten event to cel­e­brate chil­dren, build re­la­tion­ships in the com­mu­nity, and raise aware­ness of the ben­e­fits of high-qual­ity kinder­garten. All seven Cen­tral Otago Kinder­gartens will cel­e­brate the Long Lunch. Man­iototo, Wakatipu and Cromwell kinder­gartens will cel­e­brate on Fri­day 2 March and Frank­ton, Hawea, Alexan­dra and Ter­race kinder­gartens will cel­e­brate on Sun­day, March 4, 2012, In­ter­na­tional Chil­dren’s Day in New Zealand. Here’s more about our Kinder­gartens’ Long Lunch events : Man­iototo Kinder­garten: A Teddy Bears pic­nic and chil­dren’s games at Naseby do­main from 10am to 1pm; Cromwell Kinder­garten: A long sub­way sand­wich pic­nic from 12.45 at the kinder­garten invit­ing fam­i­lies, wait­ing list, new en­trant teach­ers, neigh­bours; Wakatipu Kinder­garten: All fam­i­lies, in­clud­ing wait­ing list fam­i­lies, will be in­vited on the Fri­day to join us at kinder­garten for a pic­nic lunch from 12.45 pm. Ice blocks for the chil­dren and face paint­ing and bal­loons. Alexan­dra and Ter­race Kinder­gartens: Bears, bub­bles and bal­loons Teddy Bears pic­nic. Bring along your pic­nic and join in the fun! Face paint­ing, bouncy cas­tle and more. 11am to 1pm. Alexan­dra Pioneer Park, be­tween courts and the Rose Gar­den. Hawea Kinder­garten: Plan­ning a se­ries of old fash­ioned races i.e. egg and spoon, three-legged, run­ning and sack races to be fol­lowed by a bring your own pic­nic lunch at the kinder­garten from 11am un­til 1pm. Frank­ton Kinder­garten: A fam­ily bring your own pic­nic lunch at the kinder­garten from 11.30am to 1.30pm. There will be a lolly scram­ble and ice blocks for the chil­dren. This year, over the week­end of May 4-6, the Cen­tral Otago Kinder­garten As­so­ci­a­tion will cel­e­brate the 60th an­niver­sary of the es­tab­lish­ment of the As­so­ci­a­tion. Alexan­dra was the first kinder­garten to come un­der its um­brella. Ini­tially based in Alexan­dra Pres­by­te­rian Hall, the kinder­garten moved into their new build­ing in Novem­ber 1956. Ter­race kinder­garten in Alexan­dra and Cromwell kinder­garten fol­lowed in 1979. Wakatipu Kinder­garten came on board from the South­land As­so­ci­a­tion in 1995, fol­lowed closely in 1996, by the newly built Frank­ton Kinder­garten. Hawea kinder­garten opened in Jan­uary of 2008, and this year will see the open­ing of the Man­iototo kinder­garten in Ran­furly. The pro­gramme of events planned over the week­end in­clude a Fri­day evening cock­tail hour, a Satur­day morn­ing tea fol­lowed by three dif­fer­ent op­tions of bus tours to kinder­gartens, and a Sun­day cel­e­bra­tion lunch and cake cut­ting cer­e­mony.
