Alexandra Conservation Department and BNZ staff prepare to plant at Flat Top Hill Conservation Area, beside Butchers Dam. Alexandra BNZ shut up shop yesterday and tellers ditched bank notes for gardening gloves, planting trees at the area. BNZ branches around the country closed for the day to allow staff the chance to volunteer in the community. Alexandra teller Malcolm Hill said organisations in the area could make a submission on how they could use the town’s six bank staff and the Conservation Department, which was keen to have some extra hands to plant kowhai and other natives. ‘‘It is a great day, just actually getting out there and doing something physical, putting your skills to work to help the community.’’
