Walkway on track for completion
A cash injection of $25,285 means that the Kamaka Walkway in Alexandra could be finished by the end of this year. The Keep Alexandra Clyde Beautiful project recently received funding from the Central Lakes Trust of $15,285 and The McArthur Book Committee Inc of $10,000 to complete a popular walking track connecting Gillaly Way – off lower Aronui Rd – to Kamaka Cres, further up the road. Other funding sources included the Vincent Community Board ($1,267), and the New Zealand Rhododendron Association ($1,000). The national body Keep New Zealand Beautiful also contributing towards the $30,000 project. Beautification began in 2004 and was now in its sixth and final stage, project convenor Ann Wills said. Services would be provided by 12 contractors and businesses to complete the work, which would include tree and limb removal, an upgrade of the track, installation of irrigation, supply of plants, sourcing of seats and sculptures, and making signs and a promotional pamphlet. Members would provide labour for the planting in October, with some plants donated by Omeo Peonies. Other work would include connecting drippers, erecting
of seating, and placement sculptures and signs. Community service workers had clearing unwanted foliage, supervised by members. Anyone wishing to help should contact Ann Wills on 03 448 8215 or annwills@ gmail.com.
