Walk­way on track for com­ple­tion

A cash in­jec­tion of $25,285 means that the Ka­maka Walk­way in Alexan­dra could be fin­ished by the end of this year. The Keep Alexan­dra Clyde Beau­ti­ful project re­cently re­ceived fund­ing from the Cen­tral Lakes Trust of $15,285 and The McArthur Book Com­mit­tee Inc of $10,000 to com­plete a pop­u­lar walk­ing track con­nect­ing Gil­laly Way – off lower Aronui Rd – to Ka­maka Cres, fur­ther up the road. Other fund­ing sources in­cluded the Vin­cent Community Board ($1,267), and the New Zealand Rhodo­den­dron As­so­ci­a­tion ($1,000). The na­tional body Keep New Zealand Beau­ti­ful also con­tribut­ing to­wards the $30,000 project. Beau­ti­fi­ca­tion be­gan in 2004 and was now in its sixth and fi­nal stage, project con­venor Ann Wills said. Ser­vices would be pro­vided by 12 con­trac­tors and busi­nesses to com­plete the work, which would in­clude tree and limb re­moval, an up­grade of the track, in­stal­la­tion of ir­ri­ga­tion, sup­ply of plants, sourc­ing of seats and sculp­tures, and mak­ing signs and a pro­mo­tional pam­phlet. Mem­bers would pro­vide labour for the plant­ing in Oc­to­ber, with some plants do­nated by Omeo Pe­onies. Other work would in­clude con­nect­ing drip­pers, erect­ing
