The word on the street
The Jane Sutherland boutique online store is about to go live. By late September the public will be able to shop online through Jane’s exclusive online store. The store’s objective is to provide people with the opportunity to purchase garments not available through retail stores. There will be one-off limited edition designs which will sit alongside certain pieces from current collections. Additionally there will be a number of accessories that are created directly from the studio in Kingston alongside jewellery from Russell Sutherland, Sara Ferry the very talented designer of Gia Jewellery and select pieces from Company of Strangers seasonal collections - a Dunedin label designed by Sara Aspinall. A new addition is boyswear label Trigger – only a handful of designs will be available initially to test the water – something Jane hopes can be built on over time. The name Trigger has evolved from a nickname her son Victor acquired before he was born. ‘‘The inspiration for Trigger’s designs comes from the same place where unicorns are born - “well that’s what I like to believe!” she says. Between summer production reaching the stores and designing for winter 2013 the online store has been put on the backburner until late September. The addition of an online store to the Jane Sutherland brand is something that Jane hopes will create a place where customers can find special pieces and a shopping experience they will return to. Jane says producing a clothing label from
Kingston does have a certain degree of difficulty as it is a little more isolated. ‘‘It does also have its advantages and when the disadvantages arise it can be just a matter of taking a walk down to the lake amongst the share beauty of the area and catching a nice salmon for dinner to clear the head,’’ she says. ‘‘It is a magical place and with the odd trip to the city it is a perfect balance.’’ Jane invites you to be her guest and visit www.janesutherland.co.nz in the near future. She looks forward to seeing you there.
