Proof, power and parties

tried, but wouldn’t you think there’d be a process for pinning it on him, just so those who believe it was David could just let go? I’d love to see the beyond-alldoubt evidence that would allow me to say ‘‘yeah, it was Robin’’. I need to declare an interest here – as a member of the trust which owns electricity company Pioneer Generation – but do you think that if Meridian Energy bails out hard-up (yeah right) Rio Tinto by reducing its charges to the Tiwai Point smelter, they’ll also reduce their charges to all their other consumers who struggle to pay their bills? Let’s hear it! Yeah right. Why do we love festivals? I remember living in South Westland in the 80s, and being puzzled by how important the start of whitebaiting, or duck shooting weekend, or even the Woodham Shield, were to so many people. Until it occurred to me that it’s not about the bait or the ducks, it’s about the event. Marking the passage of the year. Perhaps here, where the year lets you know pretty clearly what season it is, we’re much more motivated to mark things on our calendars. Whatever, we have lots of celebrations. Makes it a fun place to live, right?
