Dumping rubbish a growing problem
Springvale Rd near Alexandra and an old water reservoir above the town look like rubbish tips, say Vincent Community Board members Trevor Breen and Barry Wills. The former reservoir has become the town’s unofficial tip, looking like ‘‘people have been backing up and tipping rubbish in,’’ Mr Breen said. He also said the inside was ‘‘ a tagger’s dream,’’ and suggested it be fenced as a deterrent. Mr Wills, who is also involved with Keep Alexandra Clyde Beautiful, said the group regularly cleaned it out, along with the lookout further up on Little Valley Road. Litter-prone Springvale Rd was looking ‘‘like really bad news’’ because weed spraying had revealed rubbish when grass died off. While
Alexandra Blossom Festival was ‘‘one of the better ones we’ve had in a while,’’ Cr Graeme Bell said he was concerned about unsightly, over- flowing bins which made Alexandra ‘‘look like a third-world country’’. The council would investigate.
Trouble spot: Alexandra’s old reservoir above the town is a regular dumping ground for litter.
