Dump­ing rub­bish a grow­ing prob­lem

Spring­vale Rd near Alexan­dra and an old wa­ter reser­voir above the town look like rub­bish tips, say Vin­cent Community Board mem­bers Trevor Breen and Barry Wills. The for­mer reser­voir has be­come the town’s un­of­fi­cial tip, look­ing like ‘‘peo­ple have been back­ing up and tip­ping rub­bish in,’’ Mr Breen said. He also said the inside was ‘‘ a tag­ger’s dream,’’ and sug­gested it be fenced as a de­ter­rent. Mr Wills, who is also in­volved with Keep Alexan­dra Clyde Beau­ti­ful, said the group reg­u­larly cleaned it out, along with the look­out fur­ther up on Lit­tle Val­ley Road. Lit­ter-prone Spring­vale Rd was look­ing ‘‘like re­ally bad news’’ be­cause weed spray­ing had re­vealed rub­bish when grass died off. While

Alexan­dra Blos­som Fes­ti­val was ‘‘one of the bet­ter ones we’ve had in a while,’’ Cr Graeme Bell said he was con­cerned about un­sightly, over- flow­ing bins which made Alexan­dra ‘‘look like a third-world coun­try’’. The coun­cil would in­ves­ti­gate.
