Desert Heart in good health

Central Otago Mirror - - SPORT -

The Bannockburn winery Desert Heart is fully operational and in good financial health, director Denny Downie says. The winery is owned by Desert Heart Estate Ltd, a 50 per cent shareholder of the Desert Heart Wine Company, which was reported in the Mirror to be in receivership last week and is now in liquidation. But Ms Downie said the winery was not affected by the liquidation. The Desert Heart Wine Company was established in 2006 between Ms Downie and her partner in Desert Heart Estate, Jane Gill, and Aucklanders Stuart Chapman and Eric Spencer, of the company Cosmo Ltd. Mr Chapman and Mr Spencer owned a vineyard, Cosmo, in the same area. The Desert Heart Wine Company was established to be a joined distribution company. But differences between Desert Heart Estate and Cosmo Ltd led to the liquidation. The ‘‘unsecured creditors’’ owed almost $2 million by the Desert Heart Wine Company were the shareholders in the company, Ms Downie said. The Mirror apologies for any misunderstanding over last week’s report.

Beating strong: Desert Heart winery in Bannockburn is in good heart.
