Stag sale draws strong bid yield
A wide selection of venison and trophy sire stags went under the hammer at the annual Remarkables Park Red Deer Stud sale last Friday, yielding a good sales result. Stud manager Phil Dawson said many of the stud’s loyal customers from throughout the South Island were in attendance, as well as many locals. ‘‘The auction went as well as we expected, and some of our really big boys sold for nice prices,’’ he said. Venison sires outsold sires bred for the velvet yield, but the stag pictured left – a four-year-old trophy and dual purpose sire – sold to Southland’s Gary Borland for $7200. ‘‘That sale was a great result for a great stag, and we’re really pleased with the sale to Gary, who is one of our really loyal customers.’’
