Former New Zealand pace bowler and event organiser Shayne O’Connor said a youth coaching clinic, with former professional players on hand to coach, will be held as part of the festival, followed by a Twenty20 match. The Twenty20 match will include a starstudded lineup, with a New Zealand Cricket Players Association Masters team taking on a Otago Country Select XI team. ‘‘The aim of the game is really just to try and promote cricket in the area and at Molyneux Park. ‘‘The long-term hope is to return the standard of the facility to first class level with the view to hosting Otago Volts matches again,’’ Mr O’Connor said. Those taking part in the festival can test bowl against Ewen Chatfield. Proceeds from the event will go towards Otago Country junior cricket.
