Chi­nese ac­tress and so­cial me­dia phe­nom­e­non Yao Chen’s wed­ding in Queen­stown dra­mat­i­cally at­tracted vis­i­tors to the re­sort. Des­ti­na­tion Queen­stown chief ex­ec­u­tive Gra­ham Budd told coun­cil­lors yes­ter­day that Queen­stown was por­trayed as the ul­ti­mate des­ti­na­tion for wed­dings and honey­moons in Chi­nese cov­er­age. Tourism New Zealand mon­i­tored 6900 sto­ries about the wed­ding in Chi­nese me­dia, the equiv­a­lent of an ad­ver­tis­ing cam­paign in the tens of mil­lions of dol­lars. Ten­ants of a new 900sq m build­ing at the en­trance to Re­mark­ables Park have been an­nounced. They are Bay Au­di­ol­ogy, Bet­tys Liquor­stores, 2 Cheap and D-Fine Me Hair and Beauty. The ten­ants will take up 80 per cent of the build­ing. The build­ing is sched­uled for com­ple­tion at the end of April. The gen­eral man­ager for the re­tail arm of own­ers DNZ said an­nual cen­tre sales at Re­mark­ables Park were up 7 per cent on the pre­vi­ous year.
