The Cromwell Rugby Club premier team has been given a pre-season boost with some intensive training from ex-All Blacks and Hurricanes players Norm Hewitt and Dion Waller. The men spent the weekend in Cromwell where they held three sessions of hard physical training. Organiser William Bowman said the men’s experience and motivation gave the team a massive push. ‘‘They just really shared their passion and showed what they have for the game. ‘‘They made everyone give 100 per cent. This will raise the standard for what we expect for the season now.’’ Bowman, the team physio, took on the role of trainer after a dismal season featuring only two wins for the team last year. ‘‘I’m pretty competitive and didn’t like watching these guys lose. I’m just trying to set the standard higher and get everyone to push themselves more.’’ This year the club would be marking its 125th year and needed to make it a good one, he said. ‘‘We’re keen to give it a good nudge to honour the history of the club.’’
