Bards to branch out around dis­trict ho­tels

Kiwi coun­try, folk mu­sic and bush po­etry will be cel­e­brated as part of the Bards, Bal­lads and Bull­dust Fes­ti­val which will toast the unique style of high coun­try liv­ing later this month. This year a new ap­proach will be taken for the fes­ti­val, which has been held in Naseby for the past six years, and events will be spread across Man­iototo. Over 35 per­form­ers from New Zealand and Aus­tralia will take part in­clud­ing a spe­cial guest, coun­try mu­sic singer John Grenell. Grenell, also known as John Hore, penned the New Zealand ver­sion of I’ve Been Every­where with lo­cal place names and wrote the song Wel­come to Our World, the theme song for a se­ries of Toy­ota tele­vi­sion ad­ver­tise­ments, as part of his al­bum re­leased in 1990 of the same name. This would be the first year the Man­iototo Pro­mo­tions Group would host the fes­ti­val. New Zealand coun­try mu­sic singer John Grenell, a for­mer Man­iototo res­i­dent, will be in the area this month to take part in the Bards, Bal­lads and Bull­dust Fes­ti­val. singing and recit­ing in the Ran­furly, Danseys Pass, Patearoa, Oture­hua Rail­way, Waip­i­ata Coun­try, Royal and An­cient Bri­ton ho­tels. The high­light event will be a Back in the Day Con­cert and Dance at the Man­iototo Sta­dium in Ran­furly on May 18. Ev­ery­one is en­cour­aged to dress in the theme of any decade from the past 150 years. 2pm to 5pm: Per­for­mances at Danseys Pass, Oture­hua Rail­way, Patearoa, Ran­furly, Royal and Waip­i­ata ho­tels. 7.30pm to 10.30pm: Com­ing down Con­cert with per­for­mances at the An­cient Bri­ton and Royal ho­tels.

Wan­derer re­turns: Per­for­mance times May 17: 7.30pm to 10pm, The Royal and An­cient Bri­ton ho­tels. May 18: 10am to noon: Min­ers’ breakfasts at the An­cient Bri­ton and Oture­hua Rail­way ho­tels and per­for­mances at the Patearoa, Ran­furly, Royal and Waip­i­ata ho­tels. 2pm to 5pm: Per­for­mances at Danseys Pass, Oture­hua Rail­way, Patearoa, Ran­furly, Royal and Waip­i­ata Coun­try ho­tels. 7pm to 11.30pm: Back in the Day Con­cert and Dance at Man­iototo Sta­dium May 19: 10am to noon: Min­ers’ breakfasts at Ran­furly and Waip­i­ata Ho­tels, with per­for­mances at An­cient Bri­ton, Oture­hua Rail­way, Patearoa, Royal and Danseys Pass ho­tels.
