Bards to branch out around district hotels
Kiwi country, folk music and bush poetry will be celebrated as part of the Bards, Ballads and Bulldust Festival which will toast the unique style of high country living later this month. This year a new approach will be taken for the festival, which has been held in Naseby for the past six years, and events will be spread across Maniototo. Over 35 performers from New Zealand and Australia will take part including a special guest, country music singer John Grenell. Grenell, also known as John Hore, penned the New Zealand version of I’ve Been Everywhere with local place names and wrote the song Welcome to Our World, the theme song for a series of Toyota television advertisements, as part of his album released in 1990 of the same name. This would be the first year the Maniototo Promotions Group would host the festival. Group chairwoman Amie Pont said participants could take a tour of establishments across Maniototo, with performers
New Zealand country music singer John Grenell, a former Maniototo resident, will be in the area this month to take part in the Bards, Ballads and Bulldust Festival. singing and reciting in the Ranfurly, Danseys Pass, Patearoa, Oturehua Railway, Waipiata Country, Royal and Ancient Briton hotels. The highlight event will be a Back in the Day Concert and Dance at the Maniototo Stadium in Ranfurly on May 18. Everyone is encouraged to dress in the theme of any decade from the past 150 years. 2pm to 5pm: Performances at Danseys Pass, Oturehua Railway, Patearoa, Ranfurly, Royal and Waipiata hotels. 7.30pm to 10.30pm: Coming down Concert with performances at the Ancient Briton and Royal hotels.
