St Mar­garet’s Col­lege board­ers are liv­ing their dream

The St Mar­garet’s Col­lege Board­ing Com­mu­nity is "Liv­ing the Dream 2013" and fur­ther de­vel­op­ing their Board­ers Pro­gramme. Di­rec­tor of Board­ing Sue New­ton says "we are of­fer­ing a greater range of skills based ac­tiv­i­ties that are age ap­pro­pri­ate to sup­port and de­velop in­de­pen­dence." Through­out the year each year group is of­fered a skills based and a per­sonal de­vel­op­ment ac­tiv­ity as well as co­ed­u­ca­tional so­cial­iza­tion op­por­tu­ni­ties. Links with other Board­ing hos­tels such as Year 9 and 10 din­ner swaps with Christ’s Col­lege and Year 7 and 8 Iceskat­ing with Waihi school are un­der­way. Skills based ac­tiv­i­ties in­clude cy­cle safety and Barista train­ing is of­fered for Year 12 girls. Ac­tiv­i­ties for per­sonal de­vel­op­ment fo­cus on pos­i­tive re­la­tion­ship skills and lead­er­ship skills. "Week­ends are great fun" says Year 8 Board­ing stu­dent, Mia Thom­son. Some of the ac­tiv­i­ties in the week­end pro­gramme in­cludes movies, rugby games, shop­ping trips and creative crafts. St Mar­garet’s Col­lege is a Year 1 - 13 In­de­pen­dent school for girls and the only girls school in the South Is­land to of­fer the In­ter­na­tional Bac­calau­re­ate Diploma to its se­nior stu­dents.
