Quiz night planned to boost rescue chopper
Queenstown’s Westpac team hopes to give the local rescue helicopter service a boost when it holds a quiz night at the Wakatipu Rugby Club tomorrow. Terrace Junction branch manager Adam Campbell said local businesses had been generous in donating prizes to raise funds for the Lakes District Air Rescue Trust. ‘‘This service is a truly lifesaving operation, and everyone has a role in keeping New Zealand’s rescue helicopters in the skies,’’ Mr Campbell said. The 24-hour service makes a life or death difference for thousands of people every year. More than 6200 missions were completed in 2012, including boat rescues and the transportation of hospital patients in need of urgent medical care. ‘‘The helicopters are such a vital emergency service, but they depend on the support and generosity of our community to stay in the air . . . Every donation makes a big difference,’’ he said. The quiz night starts at 7pm.
