Otago sports awards suc­cess

Alexan­dra cy­clist So­phie Wil­liamson,won the ju­nior sportswoman cat­e­gory in the Otago Sports Awards on the week­end. Wil­liamson was fourth in the Ju­nior World Road Rac­ing Cham­pi­onships last year. Wanaka-based freeskier Beau-James Wells was pipped for the ju­nior sports­man of the year tro­phy, which went to south Otago sprinter An­drew Whyte. The Up­per Clutha Tracks Trust won the in­no­va­tion in sport award for their work on the de­vel­op­ment of recre­ational tracks around Wanaka. Mem­bers have built more than 100km of tracks since the trust’s in­cep­tion in 2006.
