St John on lookout for youth leaders
Adults needed to assist youth programme
St John Alexandra is desperate for adult youth leaders to help young people learn the skills to save lives. Area executive officer and youth leader, Sandra Skinner, said the volunteer community group was in urgent need of a divisional manager and an assistant divisional manager to help with the youth programme held on Wednesday nights. The programme was divided into two sections – The Penguin Programme, for 6 to 8-year-olds, and the Cadet Programme for 8 to 18-year-olds. Both programmes included creative and practical learning with a strong focus on community involvement and achieving personal goals. Mrs Skinner said support would be given to those interested in taking up the role. Many young people who took part in the programme went on to study in health-related courses with some becoming doctors, paramedics and volunteers themselves, she said. St John Central Otago district youth manager, Lynn Rae, said the St John youth programme was one of New Zealand’s biggest and fastest-growing youth programmes. ‘‘We’re looking for motivated, enthusiastic people who would enjoy working with young people, being part of their development and being part of a dynamic and successful youth organisation,’’ she said. Anyone interested in applying to be a St John youth leader in Alexandra could contact Robert Miller on 448 8417 or on 0274 373 306.
