Alexan­dra Ceme­tery work

Cen­tral Otago Dis­trict Coun­cil con­trac­tors will be­gin a seal­ing ex­ten­sion of the road in the Alexan­dra Ceme­tery this week. Work con­tour­ing level grass and in­stalling ir­ri­ga­tion will also take place. Those want­ing to visit the the ceme­tery while the work is be­ing car­ried out can still do so.

Tree sur­vey

A two-year sur­vey of more than 6000 trees in Cen­tral Otago’s pub­lic parks and road re­served by an ar­borist has iden­ti­fied trees in the re­gion which are in need of prun­ing, dead-wood­ing and re­moval. The sur­vey was con­ducted by the Cen­tral Otago Dis­trict Coun­cil to find the short- and long-term main­te­nance re­quire­ments of the trees. Coun­cil parks of­fi­cer Ge­off King said the sur­vey iden­ti­fied some po­ten­tial safety con­cerns and work would be­gin to ad­dress the is­sues dur­ing the win­ter months.

En­tries for the 2013 Cen­tral Otago Awards close on Tues­day. The bi­en­nial awards are pre­sented to busi­nesses and in­di­vid­u­als that ex­em­plify a com­mit­ment to mak­ing a dif­fer­ence. Alexan­dra Li­brary

Open­ing hours at the Alexan­dra Pub­lic Li­brary are chang­ing from June. The li­brary will no longer be open late on Fri­day nights. Week­day hours will be 10am to 5pm. The li­brary will be open for an ex­tra hour on Satur­days, from 10am to 1pm.
