Fall­ing boul­ders block high­way

State High­way 8 be­tween Cromwell and Clyde re­opened on Mon­day morn­ing af­ter fall­ing rocks up to a me­tre in di­am­e­ter forced its clo­sure at about 7pm on Sun­day night. New Zealand Trans­port Agency Cen­tral Otago area man­ager John Jarvis said heavy rain through­out the week­end caused sev­eral rocks to fall, mainly at the Clyde end of the road through the Cromwell gorge. No ve­hi­cles were hit by fall­ing rocks.
