Drive-in flicks permanent
Park buys own big screen
Everyone loved Mardi Gras but while that has changed this year (different name, different day) this new event promises to keep many of the best elements – including Queenstown Primary School’s fundraising apple crumble, but be warned, it will be located in a different and yet-to-be-revealed spot this year. Multi-cultural food stalls include hangi, venison burgers, South American sausages, pies from Ireland, Belgian waffles, Indian bhajis and French onion soup. With a background of local bands and performers, it should be a great night out for all the family to mark the end of festival and the beginning of winter.
Sunday, June 30, from 4pm in the streets of Queenstown. Drive-in movies at Queenstown’s Remarkables Park have been so popular the company has decided to make it a more permanent feature. This week Remarkables Park took delivery of a 5m by 3m screen, purchased to be used for more regular movie screenings. New projects and events coordinator Leah Fitzpatrick said screens used for popular movie screenings last year were hired. Now, the company would be able to have more regular movies with the framing and backing containers permanently in place. Upcoming events included two winter festival movies, one for children and Cool Runnings for adults, as well as hosting movies during the Adventure Film festival held in conjunction with this year’s Winter Games, and monthly movies during summer. Also on the agenda for Remarkables Parks were more regular markets at the Red Barn, including two during Winter Festival and two as part of Winter Games, a family fun day and a Blues, Brews and Barbecues event. Ms Fitzpatrick, who has been working for the company for four months, said it was all very exciting.
