Pianist Jason Bae, the first New Zealander to be given the title Young Steinway Artist by Steinway and Sons, will perform as soloist at the Central Otago Chamber Music series at the Cromwell Memorial Hall on Saturday. He has performed as concerto soloist with the Auckland Philharmonia, NZSO National Youth Orchestra and the Christchurch and Queensland Symphony Orchestras as well as winning international competitions.
Millers Flat author Kyle Mewburn was announced a winner in the NZ Post Childrens Book Awards, winning the Children’s Choice award with illustrators Ali Teo and John O’Reilly for their book Melu.
Retro rider sought
Cromwell police want help to identify the owner or rider of a retro bicycle, which was found with a stolen mountain bike in Gair Ave. The bikes were found on Friday near the Central Otago Wine Company. A Ford Transit van was unlawfully taken from a yard a short distance from where the bikes were found and left in a nearby street in the town’s industrial area. The bike is teal green in colour with the word ‘Fudge’ in black letters on the centre tube.
Welfare for museum
Cental Stories Museum and Art Gallery’s new part-time manager is Rachael Welfare. She was working as collections manager for 18 months and stepped into the role previously held by Brian Patrick at the request of the board.
The annual Cromwell Charity Ball will be held at the Memorial Hall on July 6. In its seventh year, the ball is a way for people of all ages to take part in old time dance in an alcohol-free environment. Money raised this year will go towards buying a vehicle for a Tapanui couple who will be working in Burkina Faso, West Africa.
