Pi­anist Ja­son Bae, the first New Zealan­der to be given the ti­tle Young Stein­way Artist by Stein­way and Sons, will per­form as soloist at the Cen­tral Otago Cham­ber Mu­sic se­ries at the Cromwell Me­mo­rial Hall on Satur­day. He has per­formed as con­certo soloist with the Auck­land Phil­har­mo­nia, NZSO National Youth Orches­tra and the Christchurch and Queens­land Sym­phony Or­ches­tras as well as win­ning in­ter­na­tional com­pe­ti­tions.

Author win­ner

Millers Flat author Kyle Mew­burn was an­nounced a win­ner in the NZ Post Chil­drens Book Awards, win­ning the Chil­dren’s Choice award with il­lus­tra­tors Ali Teo and John O’Reilly for their book Melu.

Retro rider sought

Cromwell po­lice want help to iden­tify the owner or rider of a retro bi­cy­cle, which was found with a stolen moun­tain bike in Gair Ave. The bikes were found on Fri­day near the Cen­tral Otago Wine Com­pany. A Ford Tran­sit van was un­law­fully taken from a yard a short dis­tance from where the bikes were found and left in a nearby street in the town’s in­dus­trial area. The bike is teal green in colour with the word ‘Fudge’ in black let­ters on the cen­tre tube.

Wel­fare for mu­seum

Cen­tal Sto­ries Mu­seum and Art Gallery’s new part-time man­ager is Rachael Wel­fare. She was work­ing as col­lec­tions man­ager for 18 months and stepped into the role pre­vi­ously held by Brian Pa­trick at the re­quest of the board.

Char­ity ball

The an­nual Cromwell Char­ity Ball will be held at the Me­mo­rial Hall on July 6. In its sev­enth year, the ball is a way for peo­ple of all ages to take part in old time dance in an al­co­hol-free en­vi­ron­ment. Money raised this year will go to­wards buy­ing a ve­hi­cle for a Ta­panui cou­ple who will be work­ing in Burk­ina Faso, West Africa.
