Karts stall on de­tails

Plans for a new ad­ven­ture ac­tiv­ity in Cromwell have been put on hold un­til the com­mu­nity board has more in­for­ma­tion. Pisa Moor­ings’ Ian and Sue McLellan are hop­ing to set up a blokart busi­ness in the town. They have ap­plied to the com- mu­nity board to lease 10ha of Cen­tral Otago Dis­trict Coun­cilowned bare land, zoned in­dus­trial, on the eastern side of the Cromwell ceme­tery. The op­er­a­tion would in­clude a track, cov­er­ing just over 2ha, for blokarts – three-wheel carts pow­ered by a wind sail – a pro store and deal­er­ship in two in­su­lated con­tain­ers with decks and shade. Coun­cil Cromwell prop­erty and fa­cil­i­ties of­fi­cer Eve­lyn Bis­set rec­om­mended the com­mu­nity board sup­port the plan, say­ing it would pro­vide an­other recre­ational ac­tiv­ity in the town, com­ple­ment other nearby sport­ing ac­tiv­i­ties, in­crease the num- ber of busi­nesses set­ting up in Cromwell and boost the coun­cil’s rental in­come.
