Massive market effort
All hands were on deck for Clyde’s annual Mid-Winter Market on Sunday at Clyde Memorial Hall where the kitchen was brimming with hot winter food. Clyde Playcentre fundraising officer Sonia Johnston said food was the major money maker for the event, its primary fundraiser and the playcentre had done all the catering. ‘‘I was up at quarter to four this morning doing apple turnovers,’’ Mrs Johnston said. Co-organiser Melissa Gare said they had approached people to have stalls to ensure there was a good mix. Items on offer from 26 stalls included handmade cosmetics, jewellery, clothing, baking, jams, chutneys, sweets and free-range eggs. ‘‘Everybody looks forward to this market every year and Clyde Playcentre relies on this market to meet our daily running costs,’’ Mrs Gare said. ‘‘It’s really a group effort from dads bringing trailers in to mums doing the baking.’’ Generous community donations included the raffle prize for luxury accommodation in Queenstown.
