Lo­cal tal­ent wins at Hokonui Fash­ion

Alexan­dra woman Daphne Ran­dle shone at the Hokonui Fash­ion De­sign Awards with her de­sign win­ning the Best Hand Knit­ted sec­tion (pic­tured). Ran­dle also re­ceived a highly com­mended in the Howl at the Moon Open Sec­tion. The awards, in its 25th year, at­tracted over 200 in­di­vid­ual and unique out­fits in 11 sec­tions.

Knobby Range fire

Helicopters were used to con­trol a high-coun­try fire near Roxburgh on Fri­day af­ter fire trucks from the Roxburgh and Millers Flat fire bri­gades were un­able to get to the scene be­cause of muddy con­di­tions. The fire was lit by a farmer on Thurs­day to burn off grass and tus­sock. Two helicopters from He­li­copter Otago were needed to con­trol the fire which burnt an area about 100 hectares. The farmer is re­quired to pay for the cost of fire­fight­ing.

High­lands Motorsport Park triathlon

The High­lands Motorsport Park near Cromwell will host the High­lands Triathlon Sprints event on Oc­to­ber 26. The event will be open to both chil­dren and adults and will in­clude triathlon, duathlon and cy­cle rac­ing sec­tions.
