Jasper Klein won the male ripper’s (10-11 years) ski division at the Cardrona Kids Cup last week. Almost 50 kids aged between 5 and 11 took to rails, boxes and kickers during the event last week. Mitchell Davern scored the best run of the day for snow boarders. Winners in the ripper category each scored a one-month scholarship from Dragon, including about $300 worth of gear.
Peak to Peak
Last year’s Peak to Peak winner Adam Milne will return to defend his title this weekend but will face stiff competition from Wanaka’s Douglas Allan (pictured) who has won the event three times previously. Also in the mix but less likely to be taking the top spot will be three time winner Steve Gurney, who first won in 1995. This year marks 20 years of the popular Queenstown event which this year begins with a ski down Homeward Bound at the Remarkables, bike down the mountain, kayak across lake Wakatipu, run to Coronet Peak and cycle to the skifield base.
Wakatipu lost 20-19 to Arrowtown in the Central Otago premiers on the weekend but secured a home semi-final and its top position in the season rankings. It will face Cromwell this weekend. Arrowtown will play Maniototo in the other semifinal.
