Aussie market inspires pupil

School building project boosted

Central Otago Mirror - - CENTRAL NEWS - By NIAMH PATERSON,

On July 11 the Omakau School held a market day to raise money for our school’s Room 4 development. Harry Smith, a pupil at Omakau School, visited the Eumundi Markets in Australia and came back with an idea to host our own market day. Harry proposed the idea to the Board of Trustees and the response was a ‘‘yes’’. He got together two pupils, Niamh Paterson and Archie Calder, to be the committee and help prepare the markets. The result of the market day was amazing. A lot of people came to support our school. Many of the students had stalls selling everyday items such as food, swedes, vintage ware, jewellery and lots more. After paying for a stall space all the profit made was for the students to keep. This was a great day for the school.

Country fair: Ethan Tudor and James Paterson sell market items to Tania Turner, Tracy Paterson and Paulette Duncan during the Omakau School Market.
