Following hard on the heels of a New Zealand title win Queenstown body builder Cass Chow has won a spot in the New Zealand team competing at the international Natural Olympia competition in San Diego in November. Chow performed before a home crowd for the first time at the inaugural Southern Lakes Natural Classic body building and won the Open Figure Short class before competing against four other class winners and claiming the overall title. ‘‘It was a small competition but I’m still thrilled because in terms of the overall lineup it was a pretty strong lineup,’’ she said. The Alpine Health and Fitness trainer said she was looking forward to competing in San Diego. ‘‘For me it’s just the experience of competing against international competitors and the opportunity to push myself and my training a little bit further.’’ She is also hoping to qualify for the National Amateur Bodybuilders Association (NABBA) Universe Championships in Germany next year. Other local competitors Irshad Ali and Liz O’Sullivan took part on the weekend.
