Cen­tral Otago soc­cer

Alex Plim­mer, of Wanaka, was a mem­ber of the Cen­tral Otago com­pos­ite soc­cer team which com­peted in the Grade 13 South Is­land Foot­ball Tour­na­ment in Queen­stown last week. The team was eighth out of 11 teams. The tour­na­ment was won by Otago who beat last year’s cham­pi­ons Can­ter­bury Black af­ter a penalty shoot out in ex­tra time.

Golf Open vol­un­teers

Up to 500 golf en­thu­si­asts and peo­ple want­ing to vol­un­teer to be part of the 2014 New Zealand Open are sought. The tour­na­ment is from Fe­bru­ary 27 to March 2 at The Hills and Mill­brook golf cour­ses. Those in­ter­ested in vol­un­teer­ing for some or all of the time should con­tact: vol­un­teer@nzopen.co.nz.

Sec­ond for bas­ket­ballers

Dunstan High School fin­ished run­ner-up at the New Zealand Sec­ondary Schools’ Bas­ket­ball tour­na­ment in Palmer­ston North. Com­pet­ing in the sec­ond tier level (for smaller schools), the team went down to St Kevin’s Col­lege in the fi­nal 68-50. Dunstan had beaten St Kevin’s ear­lier in the tour­na­ment. Liam Mul­vi­hill was named in the tour­na­ment team.
