The Rac­ers Edge Trek Wanaka 10-hour race will be held at Deans Bank in Wanaka on Sun­day. The event, or­gan­ised by Rac­ers Edge and Bike Wanaka, is in its third year and is open to rid­ers of all abil­i­ties. The event sees in­di­vid­ual and teams rid­ing as many laps of the 10km track as they can in the 10 hours, with the rider com­plet­ing the most laps win­ning. Sum­mer se­ries un­der way

The Cromwell Sum­mer Se­ries gets un­der­way this Sun­day with the Cromwell half-marathon and 10km run or walk. The event starts and fin­ishes at the Cromwell Sports Club. Other events which will be held as part of the Sum­mer Se­ries in­clude the pub-to-pub Ban­nock­burn gut­buster, the Ban­nock­burn moun­tain­bike clas­sic and the Lake Dunstan triathlon and duathlon. Bowl­ing club an­niver­sary

The Clyde Bowl­ing Club will cel­e­brate its 100th an­niver­sary this weekend. A so­cial get-to­gether will be held at the club on Satur­day af­ter­noon, fol­lowed by a cen­ten­nial fours tour­na­ment on Sun­day and a din­ner that night. On Mon­day there will be a morn­ing game of bowls fol­lowed by a bar­be­cue lunch.

NZ Open tick­ets on sale

Tick­ets for the New Zealand Open in Queen­stown are on sale for the tier one PGA tour Aus­trala­sia event at The Hills and Mill­brook Re­sort. The con­test runs from Fe­bru­ary 27 to March 2 and in­cludes a pro-am for­mat played con­cur­rently with the pro­fes­sional tour­na­ment with a to­tal prize pot of $900,000. Around 20,000 spec­ta­tors are ex­pected to at­tend.

Cromwell to host qual­i­fier for NZ Open

The Cromwell Golf Club has been con­firmed as one of the hosts of pre-qual­i­fy­ing tour­na­ments ahead of the New Zealand Open golf cham­pi­onships in Fe­bru­ary. The fi­nal stage of qual­i­fy­ing for the open will be held at the Cromwell and Omaha golf clubs at the end of Fe­bru­ary. Ten spa­ces in the fi­nal New Zealand Open field will be played for at the fi­nal qual­i­fy­ing tour­na­ments.

Hockey girls sixth

The Cen­tral Otago un­der-13 girls’ hockey team fin­ished 11th at the re­cent Col­lier Tro­phy Tour­na­ment in Wellington. The team won two pool play games, be­fore draw­ing with Can­ter­bury B in the play-off for 11th and 12th place. The Cen­tral Otago un­der-13 boys’ hockey team fin­ished 20th in its Hatch Cup tour­na­ment in Hamil­ton. Mean­while, the Cen­tral Otago un­der-15 girls’ team fin­ished sixth at its re­cent un­der-15 girls’ tour­na­ment in Dunedin, los­ing to Manawatu 2-1 in the play-off for fifth and sixth.

Travel fund opens

The Sport NZ Ru­ral Travel Fund for 2013/14 is now open to all sports clubs and school teams in the Queen­stown Lakes and Cen­tral Otago dis­tricts. The fund is to sup­port teams par­tic­i­pat­ing in reg­u­lar lo­cal sport com­pe­ti­tion in week­ends. Ap­pli­ca­tion forms are avail­able from coun­cils.
