Stu­dent schol­ar­ships

Mt As­pir­ing Col­lege stu­dent Casey Pilk­ing­ton has been awarded a Fu­ture Lead­ers schol­ar­ship at Lin­coln Univer­sity next year while Emily Moore has been awarded an Otago Univer­sity Lead­ers of Tomorrow schol­ar­ship.

Win­ter re­cap

Wanaka and Queen­stown were dusted with light snow dur­ing the weekend forc­ing the Crown Range Rd to be cleared and grit­ted. Boat own­ers were asked to check on boats as lakes Wakatipu, Wanaka and Hawea were at high lev­els.

Vol­un­teer train­ing

Peo­ple who vol­un­teer are in­vited to at­tend train­ing in Cromwell as part of Vol­un­teer­ing Cen­tral’s In­ter­na­tional Vol­un­teer Man­agers Day cel­e­bra­tions. The train­ing course is called Plan­ning the Per­fect Vol­un­teer Pro­gramme and is of­fered by Vol­un­teer­ing Cen­tral. It takes place on Novem­ber 5 at 10.30am.

Wanaka named in pres­ti­gious bucket list

Lake Wanaka has been named as the only New Zealand desti­na­tion on the pres­ti­gious Na­tional Ge­o­graphic Ul­ti­mate Ad­ven­ture Bucket List. The mag­a­zine worked with 20 of the world’s top ad­ven­tur­ers to cre­ate their bucket list for 2014. Wanaka made the list be­side the likes of ex­plor­ing Queen Maud Land in Antarc­tica, ice climb­ing in Ice­land and trekking the Kokoda Trail in Pa­pua New Guinea.

Water­park open day

Cen­tral Otago White­wa­ter and Se­ri­ous Fun River­surf­ing are host­ing a river board­ing demon­stra­tion and safety day at the Hawea Wa­ter Park on Satur­day. The event, which will teach par­tic­i­pants how to op­er­ate on the waves safely and ba­sic white wa­ter safety skills, starts at 11am for a gold coin cost. Bring body boards, life­jack­ets, hel­mets and flip­pers.
