Mt Aspiring College student Casey Pilkington has been awarded a Future Leaders scholarship at Lincoln University next year while Emily Moore has been awarded an Otago University Leaders of Tomorrow scholarship.
Wanaka and Queenstown were dusted with light snow during the weekend forcing the Crown Range Rd to be cleared and gritted. Boat owners were asked to check on boats as lakes Wakatipu, Wanaka and Hawea were at high levels.
People who volunteer are invited to attend training in Cromwell as part of Volunteering Central’s International Volunteer Managers Day celebrations. The training course is called Planning the Perfect Volunteer Programme and is offered by Volunteering Central. It takes place on November 5 at 10.30am.
Wanaka named in prestigious bucket list
Lake Wanaka has been named as the only New Zealand destination on the prestigious National Geographic Ultimate Adventure Bucket List. The magazine worked with 20 of the world’s top adventurers to create their bucket list for 2014. Wanaka made the list beside the likes of exploring Queen Maud Land in Antarctica, ice climbing in Iceland and trekking the Kokoda Trail in Papua New Guinea.
Waterpark open day
Central Otago Whitewater and Serious Fun Riversurfing are hosting a river boarding demonstration and safety day at the Hawea Water Park on Saturday. The event, which will teach participants how to operate on the waves safely and basic white water safety skills, starts at 11am for a gold coin cost. Bring body boards, lifejackets, helmets and flippers.
