Salinger giving talk on climate
Leading climate researcher and author Jim Salinger will give an indepth talk about the impact of climate change on food supplies, fresh water and public health in Wanaka on Monday at the Lake Wanaka Centre.. Mr Salinger has long been involved in researching and monitoring climate trends and leads an international team examiningthe effects of climate change. ‘‘It’s time to stop debating the how and why and to look at what is actually happening as our world gets warmer,’’ Mr Salinger said. He released a book earlier this month which brought together leading scientists to find out how changing climate would affect the world’s rainfall, glaciers, biodiversity, food supplies and public health. ‘‘A hotter planet will affect our everyday lives through access to food and water and health impacts,’’ said Dr Salinger. The book’s foreword was written by United Nations development programme administrator and former prime minister Helen Clark.
