Half marathon

The an­nual Cromwell Sum­mer Se­ries got un­der way in win­try con­di­tions on Sun­day with the Cromwell half-marathon and 10km run or walk. Ge­off Wil­liamson won the men’s open ti­tle in 1hr 18min 52sec, ahead of Steven Mor­ri­son and Jeremy Holmes. The women’s open ti­tle was won by Alaina Nash in a time of 1hr 15min 12sec, ahead of Corinna Thomp­son and Gab­bie Ernst.

Fam­ily duathlon

The Moun­tain­bik­ers of Alexan­dra group, in con­junc­tion with Pro­mote Alexan­dra, is hold­ing a fam­ily duathlon on Novem­ber 10. The event is a fundraiser for the group to raise money for trail de­vel­op­ment in the area. There are three cat­e­gories – women, chil­dren and fam­ily – and the event gets un­der way at 10am at the net­ball courts on Dunstan Rd. Cromwell sportsper­son of the year

Olympic cy­clist and in­ter­na­tional triath­lete Matt Ran­dall will be the guest speaker at the 28th Cromwell Sportsper­son of the Year awards be­ing held in Cromwell this Satur­day. Awards will be pre­sented to the ju­nior, se­nior and team of the year, as well as the over­all sportsper­son of the year. There will also be an award for ser­vices to sport and a youth as­sis­tance grant.
