The annual Cromwell Summer Series got under way in wintry conditions on Sunday with the Cromwell half-marathon and 10km run or walk. Geoff Williamson won the men’s open title in 1hr 18min 52sec, ahead of Steven Morrison and Jeremy Holmes. The women’s open title was won by Alaina Nash in a time of 1hr 15min 12sec, ahead of Corinna Thompson and Gabbie Ernst.
The Mountainbikers of Alexandra group, in conjunction with Promote Alexandra, is holding a family duathlon on November 10. The event is a fundraiser for the group to raise money for trail development in the area. There are three categories – women, children and family – and the event gets under way at 10am at the netball courts on Dunstan Rd. More information and entry forms are available at mtbofalex.co.nz.
Cromwell sportsperson of the year
Olympic cyclist and international triathlete Matt Randall will be the guest speaker at the 28th Cromwell Sportsperson of the Year awards being held in Cromwell this Saturday. Awards will be presented to the junior, senior and team of the year, as well as the overall sportsperson of the year. There will also be an award for services to sport and a youth assistance grant.
