Wanaka’s Rip­pon win­ery and Cen­tral Otago’s Fel­ton Road were two of only three New Zealand winer­ies in­cluded in the pres­ti­gious United States­based Wines and Spirit mag­a­zine’s Top 100 tast­ings. The third was Marl­bor­ough’s Saint Clair.

Store ex­ten­sion

The Wanaka Sal­va­tion Army store can now sell fur­ni­ture. Lieu­tenant Shaun and Cap­tain Karen Baker said the army leased the build­ing and de­cided to ex­tend af­ter the owner of­fered them the larger space. It has meant The Pic­ture Lounge gallery has been moved to the Spencer House Mall. Mrs Baker said the store was do­ing its best to re­duce prices af­ter com­plaints from the com­mu­nity.

Cen­tre on agenda

Plans to have Wanaka’s sports cen­tre ready by June 2016 will be dis­cussed at a Queen­stown Lakes Dis­trict Coun­cil meet­ing tomorrow. A project re­port rec­om­mends the coun­cil ac­quire an ex­tra 1.758ha along­side the Three Parks site and rene­go­ti­ate its agree­ment with Wil­lowridge and Ballantyne In­vest­ments to en­sure that the com­plex can be built to its 2016 dead­line if it goes ahead.
