Ar­son and fraud at­tempt thwarted

Se­nior con­sta­ble Chris Black­ford, of Queen­stown, said the man al­legedly over­took another ve­hi­cle on the Devil’s Stair­case and col­lided with a camper­van. Both ve­hi­cles were ex­ten­sively dam­aged but no-one was in­jured in the crash at 10.35am.

Cy­clist ‘‘pole vaulted’’

Po­lice ex­pect to charge a Queen­stown man who al­legedly crashed into a cy­clist on Satur­day evening. Se­nior con­sta­ble Black­ford said the 39-year-old was turn­ing right off Frank­ton Rd into Yewlett Cres but ap­par­ently failed to spot a cy­clist, who crashed into the pas­sen­ger door while rid­ing a $7000 bike. The cy­clist ‘‘pole vaulted’’ over the car and landed on the ground, skid­ding a short dis­tance and suf­fer­ing bruis­ing and scratches.

Driver for­bid­den

A 23-year-old Chi­nese tourist was for­bid­den to drive af­ter po­lice re­ceived a com­plaint about his driv­ing on Satur­day at 5pm. The man was cross­ing the cen­tre line on Malaghans Rd and the driver of a four-wheel-drive was forced to pull over and stop, po­lice said.
